Rosario is the name of the Historic Resort on Orcas Island, and also used to refer to the homes in that Developement. The focal point of the Resort is a beautiful 100 year old mansion built by Robert Moran. A highly successful man, Moran became ill in his middle years and was told by his physicain to move somewhere with fresh air and less stress. Moran chose Orcas and lived anohter 40 years! Many people have found that Island life can be very healing.
The homes in Rosario face south and west and have views down Eastsound. It tends to be a warm area, due to the exposure and backed by Mount Constitution to the north. At times it can be mysterious and foggy, but the sunsets are glorious. The area was developed about 30 years ago and there are lots there from 1 Acre to 5 Acres, with an occassional larger parcel. The area is serviced by the Rosario Water system and there is a Home Owners Association. Property owners can wander down to the Marina and Resort grounds, swim in the pool, explore the tidelands, go kayaking.
People like Rosario because of it's southwestern exposure, it's proximity to Moran State Park, and the quick 10 minute drive to Eastsound. It has a 'neighborhood feeling', which can feel comforting if you are not used to being in the country. There are many good values to be found there, from view homes to waterfront homes to condos. We lived in the Rosario area for many years and own a home there still that our son and his family rent. We know the area well~
