Grandson Caleb, age 8 at the beach in Deer Harbor on July 23, 2011. The temperature is 72 and sunny, with a light breeze. Nights have been cool in the low 60's. We have been lucky to miss the extreme heat of the midwest and east coast and have a bit more rain at night than normal so everything is still green and our gardens are thriving.

On Orcas Island you may notice time moves more slowly, people look you in the eye, smile and are helpful. Orcas is rural and remote, but sophisticated. More than 1/3 of the Island is held as Parks, even more in conservation land! It's quiet, but never dull.  Islanders love gardening, hiking, sailing, reading and politics. There are artists, writers and musicians as well as retirees, tele-commuters, farmers and carpenters. Neighbors share their lives while shopping at the local farmer's market or attending world class concerts.  It's a place were nature can nurture your soul.
