Good news for buyers - Federal Housing Finance Agency announced plans to expand home buyers' access to mortgages by loosening up lending standards.to borrowers with down payments as low as 3 percent and  by easing standards for those with less than perfect credit. This should help  first-time buyers, self-employed borrowers,  recent job switchers, and those who faced financial hardship during the recession. (November 2014)
